Resistors wired in series

The electricity is slowed down by each resistor in a series circuit. That means with each, they rob some energy from the electricity. In other words, the potential (the stuff that pushes the electricity) decreases as you go through each resistor. As such, the the electricity must flow through each resistor, sequentially, before it can make its way back to the source of power, akin to the beginning a water pipe.

Finding Total Resistance in a Series Circuit

Now let us discuss how to calculate total resistance in a series circuit. This is achieved by simply summing the resistance values from each resistor. If you connect examples of 2 resistors in series, One having a resistance of 10 ohms and the other having a resistance of 20 ohms, Then it is calculated like this: 10 ohms + 20 ohms = 30 ohms. So now adding these two Resistance Wire provides 30 ohms total resistance in the circuit.

How to Calculate Total Resistance in a Series Circuit?

What this effectively does is drag out the flow of the electricity even further. It’s like putting in some more bends in a water pipe, the water will slow down because it is being obstructed on its path. That means it won't be as easy for electricity to travel through the circuit which i s why in an analog circuit, as we add up the total resistance 30 ohms makes it more difficult for electricity to flow.

It is critical to select the same resistance value when you select the resistors for a resistor wire. Why is this important? If one of those TS Heating Alloy resistors has a higher resistance than the others, it is going to block the flow of the electricity more than the other resistors. However, this can lead to the circuit not working properly, or not working at all. It’s like if one bead on our necklace is much bigger than the others; it could stop the whole necklace from hanging properly.
